"News From Diversity two"
August 24, 2000
Greetings!
Tonight is the "pre-museum show" meeting at Diversity.
If you'd like to have your work exhibited at the Museum
of West Louisiana's annual art exhibit, please bring
a couple of your pieces with you tonight.
As part of our bi-weekly artist's discussion group gathering,
we're going to get some work together for the exhibit. The
exhibit is part of the museum's annual festival - Sept 1 & 2
in Leesville.
The museum has given us the entire interior of the shotgun
house for the exhibit and we're hoping to have everything
ready to be installed on Tuesday, August 29th. Diversity
will do the installation, the museum provides security
during the festival and we'll also store your work for you
at the gallery after the festival. What could be easier?
In addition to the upcoming museum show, there are a number
of things to talk about...
- Ed Pramuk's show at the Alexandria Museum of Art
(I'm hoping to go see it this weekend)
- conversion of Diversity's front hallway into an
exhibit space (does anyone know of some inexpensive
track lighting?)
- Sharon Kopriva's show at the Menil in Houston
(intense, powerful stuff!) Paula has the catalog
here at the gallery.
- submissions for Diversity's first newsletter
(everyone is welcome to submit anything art-related)
We're hoping to carve out enough time to put together
a monthly newsletter that will be distributed (via
email and US mail) to a broad group of interested
individuals and groups. Diversity is now showing
the work of 19 artists - but our total mailing list
includes about 60 people. (and is growing all the time)
- our 15 minutes of "fame" that Andy Warhol promised us
all :) - Alexandria Town Talk's recent article on
Diversity
And, of course - as always, anything else that crosses our minds.
We're also looking for gallery baby-sitters. We feel it's important
that Diversity is open when it says it's going to be open.
Occasionally, something unavoidable pops up that forces us to close
the gallery early when we'd rather not. We usually need extra help
from 5-6 pm two nights a month and on one or two Saturdays each
month (10-2pm) If a peaceful hour or two in an environment
surrounded by art sounds interesting, please let us know.
...and join us tonight - 7pm at Diversity - to be part of our (as
yet unnamed) artists gathering!
