"News From Diversity one"

August 10, 2000

Greetings!

Time flies when you're having fun ...or staying busy.
We've been doing both here at Diversity.

Paula completed a successful art camp at Diversity in July. About 8 local kids participated and we all had a lot of fun.

Alice B. Story came by during that camp and interviewed us for a feature story in the Alexandria Town Talk newspaper. (the story ran in today's paper - we have some extra copies here at the gallery)

We've toyed with the idea of naming our dedicated core group of Thursday night gatherers and we need feedback from you. Should we, in the long tradition of artist groups, name ourselves? If so, what? Let us know what you think.

Eva suggested that we participate in the "Super Sign Up" event at Fort Polk, August 17th. This will help publicize the gallery to the Fort Polk community. We're registered for that event and may even become part of Fort Polk's OWC (O fficer's W ives C lub - for those of you who are acronym challenged - like me) art auction scheduled for September.

Diversity is coordinating the art exhibit at the Museum of West Louisiana's upcoming festival Sept 1 & 2. There is still space available to be a part of that.

We have at least two upcoming exhibits scheduled here as well. The first will be a holiday season exhibit/sale/Diversity fund-raiser tentatively planned for the month of December.

In February, we've talked about sending invitations to outside artists (in addition to local artists at Diversity) for a (as yet unnamed) Mardi-Gras, voodoo, mojo, spirit-walker ...exhibit. As you can tell, we need your help to clarify this idea. :)

I've probably forgotten one or two other things but if you feel so inclined, please join us tonight (7 pm at the gallery) for our bi-weekly discussion. We'd love for you to help us shape the direction of Diversity's future as we continue to build a local community of artists.

By the way, after tonight's gathering, the gallery will be closed until next Tuesday. (August 15th) When we re-open on the 15th, we'll be asking for volunteers who may be able to babysit the gallery part-time. We want to make sure that we can keep regular business hours. (especially now, after the Town Talk article publicized the gallery's hours to over 40,000 subscribers)

If you think you'd like to spend a few hours at the gallery on occasion please let us know. Thanks!
