Billie S. Fairbanks

Billie S. Fairbanks

Billie Lahleet Sapp was born in Slater, Florida. In her early years, her family moved to Fort Myers, Florida where she lived until she married Russell Fairbanks, an Air Force officer of Sicily Island, Louisiana.

Billie's love of artistic expression was evidenced in her school years during which she used pencil and charcoal. However after her marriage she used her time in establishing homes at the various places at which they were stationed. She showed her penchant for form and color in her love of things of nature, her flower arrangements and decoration of her homes interiors, particularly during holiday seasons.

After her daughters, Autumn and Debra grew up, she felt free to spend time on her art. She enrolled in and took many lessons in art in Leesville in the early 1980's. She painted on canvas, wood, glass and cloth... She continued her painting until, for physical reasons, she had to lay down her brushes.

Her spirit lives on through her art.

A retrospective highlighting 38 of Billie's paintings was held at Diversity Gallery & Studios
May 16th to June 16th, 2003
